surface area means better button conductivity.
The Pad Mate's® conductive
contacts are super-sized to 7 mm in diameter to match the corresponding 7mm
contacts on the circuit board. This delivers a whopping 206% more surface
area than the 4mm contacts on the original Panasonic keypad!
