Why is the keypad so
important?
All the buttons on your handset are part of a one-piece rubbery component --- the keypad. The keypad rests on top of the circuit board --- a thin wafer with delicate contacts matching the keypad. When you push a particular button, the conductive layer on the bottom makes contact with the surface of the circuit board to complete a circuit... sending the proper signal to the handset's "brain" for dialing. The keypad works in conjunction with the circuit board. Your keypad will fail if the conductive layer of a button wears away (e.g., the "1" button), or if gunk migrates between the keypad and the circuit board. |
